Events & News

Calcutta/Kolkata is a city with a unique history of creativity. Heritage itself is not just a frozen past, it gives rise to new creative processes and pushes boundaries; it is the seed of the contemporary.

Kolkata’s historic environment is vanishing. Not just her mighty colonial structures, but those that were home-grown – shaped by various influences, remapped and regenerated into tangible and intangible legacies across the city.

CAL offers a forum to showcase the events and activities that are striving to create a consciousness in favour of Kolkata’s heritage and historic modernity – academic sessions, discussions and talks, book launches, street theatre advocacy, public interest litigations, public-private participatory initiatives etc. Covering subjects that range from neglected neighbourhoods and forgotten spaces to initiatives that re-imagine cityscapes.
